Words from a gonzoesque life in an oh so gonzoless world

  • Lazy

Originally published online May 25, 2016 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: The Neverending Sequel — available here

I’m waitin’ and wishin’ & breathin’ while dreamin’
And keepin’ my mind safe from all other demons
I’m lusting and longing since first time I met you
I’m not quite sure why, but I just can’t forget you

Lazy my mind won’t stop thinkin’ ‘bout you
Besides if it did, what would I do?

I tasted the water, and now I’m here drowning
Intuition is thick, but I’m treading here doubting
I look up, and hope that your blue eyes will save me
But the lower I’m sinking the more they get hazy

Lazy my mind won’t stop thinkin’ ‘bout you
Besides if it did, what would I do?

I’m lost, and somehow I’d hoped you would find me
But your light can’t break through this abyss that binds me
I’m fightin’ and finally my heads above water
I’ve built up my confidence, I’m a bit taller

Lazy my mind won’t stop thinkin’ ‘bout you
Besides if it did, what would I do?

I’m fixin’ to ramble where your grass is greener
‘Cause feedin’ my wanderlust frees my demeanor
But this is the last you I’m following blindly
I’m giving up you to get me back finally

‘Cause lazy my mind won’t stop thinkin’ ‘bout you
I’m a little bit scared, what do I do?

  • Wishing On Your Stars

Originally published online May 22, 2016 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: The Neverending Sequel — available here

The ones up over yours and my head
Me at my home, and you in your bed

Is that all we got in common?
All these heavens up above us?

Is that all I’m really feeling?
    Moonlight madness got me reeling?

    I just won’t, I can’t believe it!
Not just me, you gotta feel this?!?!

‘Cause if I’m in this alone
Just a fool is all I’ve shown

  • Silent Wishes

Originally published online May 22, 2016 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: The Neverending Sequel — available here

My mind is still so fucking frantic,
and I’m still so very heartsick

Why can’t I just not be sober
    ‘til this nauseous feeling’s over?

Why can’t I just let you be,
and distract all this lust in me?

I guess it’s just the way I’m built,
I’m not quite right, my axis tilts

    I feed off my imagination
Just to get a new sensation

Let my thoughts flail & my mind race
Let my skin flush, quickened pulse pace

Hide from these truths all the while
in my crush filled sweet denial

Most days, though, I want this over
Thinkin’ ‘bout that four leaf clover

Pledge my head to clearer thinking
just to keep my heart from sinking

  • For Momma

Originally published May 8, 2016 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: The Neverending Sequel — available here

Dedicated to Nel Hoon and all the strong mothers out there all over the world

    For Momma by Melodie Yvonne

Momma I write this for you on your day,
although you may not feel like reading

I just wanna thank you for humoring me,
and my silly dreams that I’m dreaming

You’ve given me everything I could want,
some things I didn’t know I was needing

Your faith’s made me stronger and now I’m no
longer a slave to the demons I’m fleeing

You’re endlessly loving, accepting, and kind,
you’re just such a beautiful being

I drive miles and miles just to be by your side
‘cause it’s love in your eyes that I’m seeing

I promise my heart and my brain’s got your back,
and I’ll throat punch any ailments your feeling

I’d tear out my soul and give it to you if it’d
ease just an inch of your grieving

    I know there’s a hole in your heart I can’t fill,
but at least I can help stop the bleeding

‘Cause, Momma, I love you and I’ll always be here
‘til we meet in our own little Eden

  • The Sorry Girl

Originally published online May 4, 2016 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: The Neverending Sequel — available here

The sorry girl’s sorry even when she’s silent
The sorry girl doesn’t say goodbye
The sorry girl knows everything’s her fault
When they look her in the eyes and lie

She sits in the dark and cries, and hides those tear stains to go outside
She sits in my mind and cries, and keeps my feelings buried on the inside

This wary girl’s tired, but she keeps a-movin’
This worried girl’s locked inside her brain
This weird girl’s hidin’, but she keeps a-lurkin’
Tryin’ to hide the fact that she’s insane

She sits in the dark and cries, and hides those bruises to go outside
She sits in my mind and cries, a tangled up straight jacket deep inside

This broken girl duct tapes shit together
This lonely girl’s photographs are her only friends
This empty girl can’t fill her head with silence
I’ll miss my quiet rapture when the silence ends

    Rudeness

  • 18 Years Love Should Have Grown

Originally published online Mar 30, 2016 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Meet me in the Middle — available here

I just realized the Love we lost would have been 18 this year… all grown up ❤ This is dedicated to her and my beautiful Hazie. I know you don’t have internet out there, Hazie, but I know you feel me in your head right now…

    Hand in hand we
    pray for Love that
    was so quickly taken.

    Hold us closely
    never go and
    leave us all alone,

    3 Years by Melodie Yvonne

3 years have past since Love has gone.
3 years Love should have grown.
If I had seen 3 years of heartache
I’d seen what I had known.

3 years of how could, what if, why.
3 years Love set in stone.
Will comfort be in knowledge that
she’s spread her wings and flown?

3 years in time will drift away.
    I blink… 3 more are gone,
but 3 more years will not forget
the Love that has been wronged.

    3 YEARS

    WE LOVE YOU
    MOMMIES ALWAYS LOVE YOU

  • Material Lord

Originally published online April 26, 2016 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: The Neverending Sequel — available here

This hometown feeling’s a pit in my soul
It keeps me reeling and ready to go
An illegal alien to all those I know
They watch and they gasp at my mobile freakshow

Feed me the Lord ’cause you think it’ll fix me
I’m filled to the brim with your gluttonous teachings
but I’m not your whore and you can’t unbreak me
and all this material shit I don’t envy

Where am I at if I don’t have a home?
A pile of crap and I’m chewin’ on bones
What do I do with this knowledge I know?
Throw it away ’cause the listener’s broke

Feed me the Lord ’cause you think it’ll fix me
I’m filled to the brim with your gluttonous teachings
but I’m not your whore and you can’t unbreak me
and all this material shit just don’t faze me

You claim no religion, I say you’re a fraud
You say my depression is spiritual fog
Well, not once in this life did you spare the rod
so I’ll never trade my Dog for your God

Originally published online Mar 26, 2016 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: The Neverending Sequel — available here

Let it out to keep my heart sane
Need a shield for all this mind rain

One foot in and one foot out of
    Reality breeds endless mind fucks

How can I stay open minded
Rose tint lenses leave me blinded

All this work was all for nothing
All this work is all my something

    I’ve got skill not mammaries
But talent gets you nowhere free

And all my dreams I’ve kept alive
To live this scene, to jump and jive

    Just disappear without a trace
Except the tears that mark my face
