Words from a gonzoesque life in an oh so gonzoless world

  • Keep It Simple, Stupid

Originally published online April 9, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

    Dedicated to Vernie Long ❤

Keep it simple, keep it plain
    It all passes even rain
Don’t be scared child, don’t be sad
Dream this life the best you’d have

Keep it slow child, take some time
    Smell the roses, rest, unwind
Don’t you fret now, don’t you cry
‘Cause life is fast and passes by

Dream this life the best you’d have
All the smiles and all the bad
Love your soul and where it’s rooted
And just keep it simple, stupid

Keep it simple, stay in check
Be the you that’s very best
Don’t be angry, no since ragin’
Karma’s got your back now baby

Keep it happy, smile a mile
    Grinnin’ always stays in style
And if there’s ever clouds above ya
Know I’m reachin’ down to love ya

Dream this life the best you’d have
All the smiles and all the bad
Love your soul and where it’s rooted
And just keep it simple, stupid

Love your life and where you’re rooted
And just keep it simple, stupid

  • Honey Baby

Originally published online April 4, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

    You understand without explaining
Vibes of comfort in the air
    You spend no time complaining
Living life is all you care

    You don’t accept the passionless
    Surrounded by the mad
Each step in life’s a dance to you
    The best you’ve ever had

You’re my end and my beginning
You’re the sun that lights my moon
You’re the cherry on my sundae
And the music in my tune

You’re the bass clef to my treble
You’re the worker in my bees
And I’m cravin’ me some honey
So hand it over baby please!

You’re everything I want to be
    And not a penny less
You’re all the good I see in me
    But minus all the mess

    You’re everything I wanted
    Though I really didn’t know
Now it’s too late for the taking
And your absence makes me grow

You’re my end and my beginning
You’re the sun that lights my moon
You’re the cherry on my sundae
And the music in my tune

You’re the bass clef to my treble
You’re the worker in my bees
And I’m cravin’ me some honey
So hand it over baby please!

This life is lived in rhythms
    All dictated by the moon
And although the tide must leave now
    It always comes back soon

So I guess I’ll sit in silence
    Counting blessings while I wait
    Longing for my honey baby
Playing trust games with my fate

You’re my end and my beginning
You’re the sun that lights my moon
You’re the cherry on my sundae
And the music in my tune

You’re the bass clef to my treble
You’re the worker in my bees
And I’m cravin’ me some honey
So hand it over baby please!

  • The World Spins On

Originally published online April 1, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

Nobody here is right or wrong
And on and on the world spins on
You wanna know why I’m singing my song?
‘Cause on and on the world spins on
Not much time left ‘til we are gone
And on and on the world spins on
So don’t you fret just sing your song
‘Cause on and on the world spins on

Livin’ this life for the masses
    Schoolin’ you from skippin’ classes
You can’t touch me I’m above it
Teach me lessons I’m gonna love it
You can’t keep me in detention
Guess I never thought to mention
I’ve not got too, many fucks left
Life is not a fucking contest

All my life I’ve gave up something
Come what may, I regret nothing
    But I’ll always ask forgiveness
We all got a shade of wickedness
Fret not for who’s truly evil
On this plane we all are equal
So just love with all your soul
And let this gorgeous life unfold

Nobody here is right or wrong
And on and on the world spins on
You wanna know why I’m singing my song?
‘Cause on and on the world spins on
Not much time left ‘til we are gone
And on and on the world spins on
So don’t you fret just sing your song
‘Cause on and on the world spins on

  • Hope

Originally published online March 23, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

Systematic revocation of your rights to me
Will be the very thing I need to set my heart ache free
Substitution of your face is just a deferred pain
Hope I will and hope I won’t be seeing you again

Fading like a back to future picture in my hands
Invisible from chemicals that bring about our end
Hiding from you in the most precocious kind of way
But the prisms forming in my eyes are giving me away

Hope I will and hope I won’t be seeing you again
I don’t know how to end it so our story never ends
My heart can’t breathe when you are near so we just can’t be friends
So I hope I will and hope I won’t be seeing you again

I stumble in the dark without your soul light monkey fuck
Not looking yet I’m finding and I’m running out of luck
I hope and wish and pray for you to save me from myself
But I’ve cut you off and now I’m hurting everybody else

Just going through these motions and I’m stuck inside my head
Still analyzing every single word you ever said
Replaying every moment through the movies in my mind
But I’m really not quite sure what I’m expecting me to find

I hope I will and hope I won’t be seeing you again
I don’t know how to end it so our story never ends
My heart can’t breathe when you are near so we just can’t be friends
So I hope I will and hope I won’t be seeing you again

My heart still quickens as I picture your sweet angel face
Looking in your eyes I thought I’d finally found my place
But both our souls are broken, we’ll not be there in the morn’
And that string that tethers me to you has finally gone and torn

I hope I will and hope I won’t be seeing you again
I don’t know how to end it so our story never ends
My heart can’t breathe when you are near so we just can’t be friends
So I hope I will and hope I won’t be seeing you again

Oh I hope I will and hope I won’t be seeing you again

  • The Party Lingers On

Originally published online March 28, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

We are all just politicians in a fuckbook kind of world
And I’m far from proper pretty ‘cause I’m just a little girl
Never tried to grow up but I’ve got big girl pants on
And no matter what you throw at me the party lingers on

I sit alone in solitude, and let connections linger
The chemicals that scrub my mind can’t get it any cleaner
And if I had a dollar every time I wouldn’t let you
Then I’d maybe have enough to buy the right drug to forget you

We are all just politicians in a fuckbook kind of world
And I’m far from proper pretty ‘cause I’m just a little girl
Never tried to grow up but I’ve got big girl pants on
And no matter what you throw at me the party lingers on

I smile a mile unflinchingly a few feet from your heart
You’re standing here right next to me although we’ve grown apart
But I just plain won’t stand here, and wait for this to end
I’m gonna take my smile from your rough sea of discontent

We are all just politicians in a fuckbook kind of world
And I’m far from proper pretty ‘cause I’m just a little girl
Never tried to grow up but I’ve got big girl pants on
And no matter what you throw at me the party lingers on

  • Wondering

Originally published online March 15, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

The faces meld so slowly like I’m lazy cutting grass
Time it flies so quickly, and my heart it moves so fast
If you had an inkling of the things that I could see
You wouldn’t wanna wonder what it’s like to be like me

You wouldn’t wanna wonder what it’s like to be like me
You wouldn’t ever lose yourself in lurid company
You’d dance in fire and understand the lust out in the rain
You’d understand why I keep doing it again, again

Time it melds together, and I’m lost out in the rain
You’re asking me to do it all again, again, again
But if you had an inkling of my lurid company
You wouldn’t wanna wonder what it’s like to be with me

You wouldn’t wanna wonder what it’s like to be with me
You wouldn’t ever lose yourself in lurid company
You’d dance in fire and understand the lust out in the rain
You’d understand why I keep doing it again, again

Oh, you’d understand why I keep doing it again, again

  • Baby, Baby, I’m Gonna Miss You

Originally published online March 14, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

Baby, baby, I’m gonna miss you
Though I never got to kiss you
Baby, baby, I’m gonna miss you
And I’m hopin’ you’ll miss me too

Fuck my heart, my soul wears Kevlar
Getting’ stuck to you won’t get far
But I feel I need you near me
Oh please god just don’t forget me

I’m confused, and just can’t stand it
I need you to set my brain straight
Needin’ me’s not what you need, though
You need meat not fleshless me bones

Baby, baby, I just miss you
Will I always want to kiss you?
Baby, baby, I still miss you
And I’m hopin you’ll miss me too

Fuck your heart, your soul wears Kevlar
Getting’ stuck to me won’t get far
You’ll sink quick, I’ll have you drownin’
You fall in quicksand I’m bound in

You’re confused, and just can’t stand it
And this life’s not what we planned it
We can’t breathe, just treadin’ water
    Trudging through this lifeless fodder

Will we ever find each other?
Or is this all lost forever?
Will he ever come to find me?
All is lost when I’m done binding

Baby, baby, I’ll sure miss you
Maybe in my dreams I’ll kiss you
Baby, I will always miss you
And I’m dreamin you’ll miss me too

Baby, baby, I sure miss you
Maybe in my dreams I’ll kiss you
Baby, baby, I’ll still miss you
In my dreams I’m missin’ you too

  • Distraction

Originally published online March 12, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

I’d sure love to be your distraction
    Somebody else’s dubious attraction
I’d love to be somebody’s trigger
A wreck on the tracks, baffled eyes gettin’ bigger

I’ll be something blue, something borrowed
But just don’t expect me to be there tomorrow
I’ll be what you want me to be
But just for a while ‘cause lonely I’m free

Just give me some time, some time to be mine
If you go too fast, I’ll fall behind
Give me some time, some time to unwind
Or you just won’t like this mess that you find

You look at me like I’m some candy
And I’ll be so sweet until you can’t stand me
You look at me like I’m for real
It’s just for this moment ‘cause now I can’t feel

You look at me like I’m your savior
Well, I got news, I’m all bad behavior
And I wish you were here in this moment
Somethin’ about you makes me wanna own it

Just give me some time, some time to be mine
If you go too fast, I’ll fall behind
Give me some time, some time to unwind
I’ll run ahead if you fall in line

Just give me some time, some time to be mine
If you go too fast, I’ll fall behind
Just give me some time, some time to unwind
Don’t burn too bright, we’ll run out of time

I’d sure love to have a distraction
Somebody to be my dubious attraction
I’ll be what you want me to be
But just for a while cause lonely I’m free

  • All These Wicked Things

Originally published online March 3, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

Empty spaces, writhing faces carried in the darkness
Images that jump to life my momma swore were harmless
Now these evil faces dance again before my eyes
My scream is caught inside my soul, my body’s paralyzed

Insomnia’s the only savior from these wicked dreams
My paranoia is the truth ‘cause nothing’s what it seems
These wars I fight inside myself, I fight them all alone
And all these wicked things I’ve seen have found themselves a home

I’m bound by superstition, lucky numbers are my signs
You dance across my grave, and leave my broken soul behind
My belly’s really icky, right side hurts from top to bottom
This apathetic addict’s soul’s infection’s turned me rotten

Now insomnia’s the only savior from these wicked dreams
My paranoia is the truth ‘cause nothing’s what it seems
These wars I fight inside myself, I fight them all alone
And all these wicked things I’ve seen have found themselves a home

All these wicked things I’ve seen have found themselves a home
All these wicked things I’ve seen, they’ve found themselves a home

  • Catching-Up

    Hey, Friends!

I just wanted to take a moment to check in and thank you all for joining me here. This new space I’ve started is dedicated entirely to my poetry. My visual artwork and concert adventures will still live over at melodieyvonne.com, but this site is where I’ll be gathering and sharing my literary art.

I’ve begun from the very start of my online poetry journey, and I’m moving forward through the years. That means you’ll see a lot of extra posts coming through right now as I catch everything up. Once I’ve finished bringing the past into the present, the poetry pace will slow down, and I’ll excitedly begin to share brand new pieces with you.

Thank you for supporting me through this process. It means the world to have you along for the ride. I can’t wait to move forward together into new work, new journeys, and everything that’s yet to come.

    Ever yours, Melodie Yvonne
