Words from a gonzoesque life in an oh so gonzoless world

  • All My Fault

Originally published online Oct 19, 2017 & in the collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

All you are is all my fault
You’re just an endless pit of want
And if I ever did forget you
You’d be dead no one to let you

All you are is all my fault
You blame me for your stupid stunts
And if I wasn’t here to let you
You’d find someone else to get to

All you are is all my fault
All you are is all my fault

Both of what we are are sins
    I enable, I defend
But you point blame & then provoke me
Now you’ve finally gone & broke me

All you are is all my fault
I gave you everything you want
But now it’s time I did forget you
Go find someone else to let you

All you are is all my fault

  • Soul Beacon

Originally published online Oct 9, 2017 & in the collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

Finally you’re done hurting these people,
Your cruelty and misery knows no equal
But still you just can’t let me out of your sight
‘Cause you’ve stolen my heart but you can’t steal my light

Beaten and bruised yet my soul’s still a beacon
An endless supply of sun you’ll never weaken
And no matter how much you treat me this way
I’ll keep right on loving but I’ll never stay

Finally you’re done hurting these people,
Your cruelty and misery knows no equal
But still you just can’t let me out of your sight
‘Cause you’ve stolen my heart but you can’t steal my light

My love and my dreams aren’t much more than a wish list
My prime time is over I guess I just missed it
So beaten and broken I look like your prey
But my soul’s still on fire, you’ll not eat me today

Finally you’re done hurting these people,
Your cruelty and misery knows no equal
But still you just won’t let me out of your sight
‘Cause you’ve stolen my heart but you can’t steal my light

Finally I’ve stopped you from hurting these people
Your cruelty and misery knew no equal
And now you just can’t let me out of your sight
‘Cause I’ve stolen your heart and I’ve breathed you new life

Somehow now you just can’t let me out of your sight
‘Cause now I’m your beacon and guide you through night
Somehow now you just can’t let me out of your sight
‘Cause I’ve stolen your heart and now we share my light

Sometimes this house just swallows me whole
It’s so hard to see that I’m not alone
But then those words whisper in my ear
You don’t have to fear child I’m always here

Just live and let go and rely on your faith
Just dream and be kind and believe in your fate
But all these cruel noises just keep getting’ louder
And drown out my savior with their endless chatter

Then once again this house swallows me whole
It’s so hard to see that I’m not alone
But quickly those words whisper in my ear
You don’t have to fear child I’m always here

All of my doubts make it harder to listen
All of my fears try to derail my mission
How can I just trust another to save me
When I’ve sinned so much against He who has made me

Then once again this house swallows me whole
It’s so hard to see that I’m not alone
But then those words whisper in my ear
You don’t have to fear child I’m always here

You don’t have to fear child I’m always here
Let go of your panic, let go of your fear
Trust in the spirit and He will be with you
You’re never alone ‘cause he’s right here within you

Sometimes this house just swallows me whole
It’s so hard to see that I’m not alone
But then those sweet words whisper in my ear
You don’t have to fear child I’m always here

  • Hurricanes

    Hurricanes in and hurricanes out
All that’s left here in my mind is doubt
Why am I here and why am I a fuck up
And how can I be worried ‘bout me when the world’s fucked up

Tidal waves crashin’ all over my brain
Eye of the storm is as dark as it’s tame
How am I gonna make myself stay sane
When I’m tryin not to wish that you feel all your own pain

    Hurricanes in and hurricanes out
All that’s left here in my mind is doubt
Why am I here and why am I a fuck up
And how can I be worried ‘bout me when the world’s fucked up

Fire’s burnin’ bright and way outta our reach
Mouths are too loud to practice what they preach
No better than them but you’re just a racist
And someone needs to take us back to the basics now

    Hurricanes in and hurricanes out
All that’s left here in my mind is doubt
Why am I here and why am I a fuck up
And how can I be worried ‘bout me when the world’s fucked up

How can I be worried ‘bout me
How can I be worried ‘bout me
How can I be worried ‘bout me
How can I be worried ‘bout me when the world’s fucked

  • Bounce

Originally published online Sept 27, 2017 & in the collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

    The rising sun’s so bright
I gotta hide from it ‘til noon
    I’m sodomized by the weather
And face raped by your perfume

    My eyeballs poppin’ out
But yet my skull is cavin’ in
And right now there’s just not a chemical
    That wouldn’t be my friend

Go ahead and talk your shit
‘Cause you can’t take my pain
Go ahead and talk your shit
    ‘Cause it comes ’round again
Go ahead and talk your shit
‘Cause you’re the one that’s drowning
So just go ahead and talk your shit
    ‘Til karma bounces ’round me

I’m drivin’ many miles just tryin’
    To keep myself from dying
I’m feeling like I’m gonna fail
And I just can’t stop crying

    Every single noise you make
    Exacerbates my pain
So I’m not quite sure we’ll make it through
    This kind of day again

Go ahead and talk your shit
‘Cause you can’t take my pain
Go ahead and talk your shit
    ‘Cause it comes ’round again
Go ahead and talk your shit
‘Cause you’re the one that’s drowning
So just go ahead and talk your shit
    ‘Til karma bounces ’round me

  • Resurrection

Originally published online Sept 24, 2017 & in the collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here
“Resurrection” can also be found in Melodie’s Poetry Collaboration psalms 2000:17-24 available on Amazon here

    Self aware yet unaware
    Doesn’t get me anywhere
Too scared to run too scared to care
Too scared to take that double dare

Not lost but just not anywhere
Depression just don’t have a care
I’m not quite sure what got me here
But suddenly I’m filled with fear

One by one we all fall down, we all fall down, we all fall down
One by one we all fall down but we can get back up again

Can’t keep up with Satan’s pace
‘Cause I won’t wear my double face
    Losing in this human race
To get a dab from heaven’s taste

Listen but don’t trust my ears
    Seeking knowledge everywhere
Being saved moves me to tears
And suddenly I have no fears

‘Cause one by one we all fall down, we all fall down, we all fall down
One by one we all fall down but we get back up again

Finding that I’ve still got faith
Pulls me out that darkened place
Finding that I’ve still got faith
Clears those tear stains from my face

Wanna lift you right up with me
Even though you might not get me
Wanna share the love that lifts me
And the miracles He gifts me

One by one we all fall down, we all fall down, we all fall down
One by one we all fall down but as one we rise again

  • Waste Me

Originally published online Sept 8, 2017 & in the collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here
“Waste Me” can also be found in Melodie’s Poetry Collaboration Sin & Skin available on Amazon here

Feelin’ your body heat under my skin
It feels so good but I know it’s a sin
‘Cause nothing this healthy has ever been tasty
But if I can’t have you, you might as well waste me

I’m feelin’ your eyes lookin’ deep inside me
Wonderin’ if it’s time for me to be me
Sometimes I’m madonna, but now I’m your whore
And you keep me all cummin’ back beggin’ for more

Feelin’ your body heat under my skin
It feels so good but I know it’s a sin
‘Cause nothing this healthy has ever been tasty
And if I can’t have you, you might as well waste me

Want to crawl outta my skin and in yours
I want you inside so bad I’m on all fours
That darkness in you gets the darkness in me
And I crave how you let me just set it all free

Feelin’ you thrust deep inside of my soul
I’m takin’ it all and I’m takin’ it whole
And all I can do is just pray this won’t end
‘Cause the way that you fuck me is my favorite sin

Feelin’ your body heat under my skin
It feels so good but I know it’s a sin
‘Cause nothing this healthy has ever been tasty
But if I can’t have you, you might as well waste me

I wanna taste you and you wanna taste me
So if I can’t have you, you might as well waste me

  • Melody Medicine

Originally published online Sept 5, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

I don’t care if you love me now ‘cause all I gots is time
Time to heal my soul myself with true love that I find
Each time I hit that play, I reach the end and I rewind
And all these melodies wash over me and cleanse my troubled mind

I don’t care if you leave me now, I’ll never be alone
I hit that play Jimi, Shannon, & Josh jump out my phone
And never will they hit or even use an angry tone
‘Cause they’re only here to feed my soul, heal me, and make me whole

I don’t care if you love me now ‘cause all I gots is time
Time to heal my soul myself with true love that I find
Each time I hit that play, I reach the end and I rewind
And all these melodies wash over me and cleanse my troubled mind

There ain’t no hurt that you can give that hurts my frame of mind
There ain’t no hurt that you can give that music can’t unwind
Put the needle on the record ‘stead of in your arm next time
And maybe all your troubles melt away along with some of mine

I don’t care if you love me now ‘cause all I gots is time
Time to heal my soul myself with true love that I find
Each time I hit that play, I reach the end and I rewind
And all these melodies wash over me and cleanse my troubled mind

Oh yes, each time I hit that play, I reach the end and I rewind
And all those melodies wash over me and free my troubled mind

  • Cryin’ Today

Originally published online Aug 25, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

I’m sad and I feel like cryin’ today
I don’t understand why this won’t go away
And all that I wanted was for you to stay
But now all I want is my own little way

I’m sad and I feel like cryin’ today
    This isn’t a game and I don’t wanna play
I’ve given you every reason to stay
But I’m takin them back now so you better pray

I’m sad and I feel like cryin’ today
I don’t understand all these things that you say
I’ll sure not be lied to and you’ve gone and strayed
So I’m thinkin’ it’s ‘bout time to leave here today

I’m sad and I feel like cryin’ today

  • Body For Hire

Originally published online Sep 2, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

I’m feelin’ quite nothing, just less than you’d guess
I’m feelin’ quite awful and kinda a mess
I’m feelin’ just somewhat a little bit lost
And all of my wires have done gotten crossed

I’m feelin’ just slightly a little less tired
Feelin’ more lively, but this soul’s been mired
All of these warnings just catch me on fire
And now I’m burnt out, just a body for hire

I’m feelin’ you crawlin’ right under my skin
I’m feelin’ you knockin’ but you can’t come in
I’m feelin’ your eyes and your mind’s always pryin’
But I’ll never feed you my tears when I’m cryin’

I’m feeling you back off and cuttin’ that string
I need you to take back the chaos you bring
I need you to go ‘cause I’m steppin’ in something
And all that I want now is just to feel nothing

I’m feelin’ quite nothing, just less than you’d guess
I’m feelin’ quite awful and kinda a mess
I’m feelin’ just somewhat a little bit lost
And all of my wires have done gotten crossed
