Hurt So Bad by Melodie Yvonne

I see your heart but you don’t see mine
And mine is aching all the time
I want what I can never have
Why do you have to hurt so bad?

I saw you for the things you wasn’t
Saw flaws but you was up above it
Why oh why did I have to love you
Wish I’d known you’d make me feel blue

I was already gone and done
And I didn’t want your kind of fun
But somethin’ ’bout your words when leavin’
Somehow gone and left me grievin’

I see your heart but you don’t see mine
And mine’s still aching all the time
Still want what I can never have
Why did you have to hurt so bad?

  • How Do I Go

Originally published online May 6, 2018 & in the collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Huit — available here

How Do I Go by Melodie Yvonne

How do you stop feeling bad unless you stop feeling at all
How do you keep out the evil without putting up concrete walls
How do you stay comfortably numb without staying comfortably dumb
I’m guessing I need to find balance before I just get up and run

How do I stay, and how do I go
    I don’t know
    I don’t know
    No no, I don’t know

I’ve ran out of places to hide and now I don’t know what to do
My hearts broken all of the time and I just can’t stop feeling blue
There’s this ache in the pit of my soul and I know I can’t stay here with you
I’m lost and with nowhere to go, and I’m scared now of what I might do

How do I stay, and how do I go
    I don’t know
    I don’t know
    No no, I don’t know

How do I stay, but how do I go
    I don’t know
    I don’t know
    No no, I don’t know

  • Someone Here to Call You Mine

Originally published online April 7, 2018 & in the collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Huit — available here

I know that I’m supposed to be an instrument
And I know sometimes I play it wrong
But soon I’ll spend all my time missin’ you
Wonderin’ where in the hell you have gone

Soon I’ll spend all my time wonderin’
If there’s somethin’ else I could have done
But now I’m just bathin’ in silence
Just sittin’ here pretendin’ I’ve won

There is no one winnin’ or losin’ here
‘Cause time flies in the blink of an eye
Sometimes life gets pretty lonely here
Without someone here to call you mine

The weight of it all’s startin’ to set in
I’m lyin’ awake and can’t breathe
I’m wonderin’ if you’re out there a’ missin’ me
Wonderin’ if I’m somethin’ you need

I know that I’m supposed to be an instrument
But I’m sure I’m always playin’ it wrong
But just because sometimes I’m a lil outta tune
Don’t mean I’m not playin’ our song

There’s still no one winnin’ or losin’ here
‘Cause time flies in the blink of an eye
Sometimes life gets pretty lonely here
Without someone here to call you mine

    Oh without someone here
    With no one to love
Oh without someone here to call you mine

  • No Worries, Baby

Originally published online April 2, 2018 & in the collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Huit — available here

No Worries, Baby by Melodie Yvonne

Sometimes it’s hard to keep a smile in your eye
When you’re walking around wantin’ to cry
And sometimes it seems like this world just don’t get you
Well, don’t worry, baby, this world don’t get me too

Sometimes it feels like you’re caught in a trap
There’s no going forward and no going back
Well, don’t worry, baby, ‘cause you’re not alone
I’m always right here just pick up the phone

Sometimes it feels like we’re safe in a bubble
Chaos around us and everything’s rubble
Well, don’t worry, baby, ‘cause we’re here together
And somehow we’re gonna get through this bad weather

Well sometimes it’s hard to keep a smile in my eye
When I’m walking around and wantin’ to cry
And sometimes it seems like this world just don’t get me
Then baby flies in and reminds me he’s with me

Yeah, sometimes it just feels like I’m all alone
I keep to myself and I hide from the phone
But then it’s all better ‘cause suddenly you’re here
And you’re saying, “Hey, baby, there’s nothing to fear”

Sometimes it’s hard to keep a smile in your eye
When you’re walking around wantin’ to cry
And sometimes it seems like this world just don’t get you
Well, don’t worry, baby, this world don’t get me too

Yeah, don’t worry, baby, this world don’t get me too

  • Walls

    Walls by Melodie Yvonne

If you’re only gonna be here for three months then why be here at all?
If you’re only gonna feel me half the time then why feel me at all?
If you’re not gonna make it passed the rain then don’t come out at all
Yeah I’ve got a lot of time to give, but you’ve got none at all

If you’re only gonna promise to let me down then why promise at all?
If you’re only gonna promise to walk away then stop makin’ me crawl
If you’re only gonna step in half my life then don’t step in at all
I put it all out in front to you, but you just put up walls

If you’re only gonna be here for three months then why be here at all?
If you weren’t gonna be there to pick me up then why’d you let me fall?
If you weren’t gonna give me all your heart then why give it at all?
It takes a real man to build a life, so you just built a wall

Yeah, it takes a real man to build a life, so you just put up walls

Angels in Human Clothes by Melodie Yvonne

Angels in human clothes walking around
Doing sweet things though you don’t hear a sound
Give their last breath if they know you’re gonna drown
They’re angels in human clothes walking around

Angels in human clothes walking around
Smiling so hard so you won’t see their frown
Their lives might be hard but you won’t know they’re down
Angels in human clothes walking around

Angels in human clothes walking around
They come in all sizes and shapes, gaunt and round
Guardians tailored to keep you safe and sound
Angels in human clothes walking around

Angels in human clothes walking around
They spread words of hope, turn the lost into found
They’ll tell you they love you and you’re makin’ ‘em proud
Angels in human clothes walking around

It’s harder to hear the real truth than the lies
So it’s easier to live without opening your eyes
But they’ll be there to help you no matter the prize
First to start diggin’ when you’re buried alive

Angels in human clothes walking around
One foot up in heaven and one on the ground
They’ll give you their throne and then hand you their crown
Angels in human clothes walking around

Angels in human clothes walking around
Doing sweet things though you don’t hear a sound
Give their last breath if they know you’re gonna drown
‘Cause they’re angels in human clothes walking around

Demons in Human Clothes by Melodie Yvonne

Demons in human clothes walking around
Blendin’ right in they don’t make a sound
Till you’re over your head so deep you’re gonna drown
Demons in human clothes walking around

Demons in human clothes walking around
Smiling so hard that you can’t see their frown
Smiling so big while they’re taking you down
Demons in human clothes walkin’ around

Demons in human clothes walking around
They come in all sizes and shapes, gaunt and round
Their temptations tailored for taking you down
Demons in human clothes walkin’ around

Demons in human clothes walking around
Your fake thoughts and prayers draw them in like a hound
Your self-righteous bullshit is makin’ ‘em proud
Demons in human clothes walking around

You’d see all the signs if you’d open your eyes
They stick right on out of their flimsy disguise
But most shut their lids ‘cause denial’s a prize
And just bury their heads in abominable lies

Demons in human clothes walkin’ around
Blendin’ right in they don’t make a sound
Now you’re over your head so deep you’re gonna drown
Demons in human clothes walking around

Your Next Mistake by Melodie Yvonne

My heart’s on fire and so is yours
I can’t step through these open doors
I’m froze in space and outta place
And I’m still here cravin’ your face

I wanna be your next mistake
I wanna be your somethin’ great
And even if it’s just one moment
Even if I totally blow it
Please just let me be your next mistake

My heart’s on fire and so is yours
I wanna be your mi amor
I can’t think straight ’cause I’m all smitten
I gotta get this outta my system

I wanna be your next mistake
I wanna be your somethin’ great
And even if it’s just one moment
Even if I totally blow it
Please just let me be your next mistake

  • Shimmy Shake and Walk Away Now

Originally published online Feb 25, 2018 & in the collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Huit — available here

Shimmy Shake and Walk Away Now by Melodie Yvonne

    Watch me walk away now
    And watch me shimmy shake
    I’m done bendin’ to you
I’ve bent so far I’m gonna break

    Watch me walk away now
    Watch my heart I break
I might be scared to face you
But I’m not scared to face mistakes

    Watch me walk away now
    I’m not afraid to break
    ‘Cause walkin’ away is better
    Than this constant pulsing ache

    Watch me walk away now
    Watch me shimmy shake
I’m no more tethered to you
Than I’m tethered to a snake

    Watch me walk away now
    And watch me shimmy shake
I’m finally done with you now
    And I’m finally awake

    Watch me walk away now
    Watch me shimmy shake

  • You and Me

Originally published online Feb 12, 2018 & in the collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Huit — available here

You and Me by Melodie Yvonne

    I’m tasting blue Fla•Vor•Ice
    And I taste summer
    These little delusions
    Make it seem funner

    And yes I’m aware
It should be “more” not “er”
But I wish we could go back
    To the children we were

I wish we could go back
    Be the children we knew
    When I was just innocent
    And I was with you
I wish we could go back
    Be just naïve and free
I wish we could go back
To be just you & me

    I’m seeing those fireflies
    When I close my eyes
    I’m seeing that moment
    You told me goodbye

    If I could go back
    And just make things right
    Maybe I could still see
Your sweet face in the light

I wish we could go back
    Be the children we knew
    When I was just innocent
    And I was with you
I wish we could go back
    Be just naïve and free
I wish we could go back
To be just you & me

Oh I wish we could go back to be just you & me

  • Confusion in Repeat

Originally published online Feb 7, 2018 & in the collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Huit — available here

Confusion in Repeat by Melodie Yvonne

    I don’t know how I feel anymore
About this world we live in
I don’t know what to do most days
But I am not going to give in
Still most times I’ve lost hope
All locked up in this mental prison
It’d take dynamite with diamond studded shrapnel just to get in

    Now don’t misunderstand me
I’m not lost or feeling coy
    I’m not just playing games
    Or merely trying to annoy
    I’ve used my own volition
And I’ve made my empty choices
So I’ll not be flustered by this constant cackling of voices

    I don’t know how I feel maybe
But at least I’m feeling something
I’d rather be a little mess
    Than blindly feeling nothin’
But some days I’m so tired
And I don’t know just what to do
There’s some days it takes a lot more than myself to see me through

You see I don’t know how I feel anymore
About this world we live in
I don’t know what to do most days
But I am not going to give in
Still most times I’ve lost hope
All locked up in this mental prison
It’d take dynamite with diamond studded shrapnel just to get in

Yeah, it’d take dynamite with diamond studded shrapnel just to get in
