    Previously Ate by Melodie Yvonne

You’ve made me feel much less than worthless
For all I did you’ve made me useless
Your fake love’s what’s kept me going
But now all your lies are showing

And I just don’t care to see them
I don’t wanna meet your demons
I don’t wanna meet more faces
Or help you train my replacement

I just wanted you to love me
But your love goes on without me
I just wanted you to see me
But you don’t want me to be me

What am I supposed to do when I can’t keep my mind off you?
How the heck will I move on when all the hope you gave me’s gone?

You’ve still got all of your heart left
Still you tore mine out with one rip
You done moved to someone else
But tried to keep me on your shelf

Well I done found some self-respect
A place that you’d have never guessed
I found it deep inside myself
And now I’m done with all your “help”

What am I supposed to do when I can’t keep my mind off you?
How the heck will I move on when all the hope you gave me’s gone?

Well I done answered my own question
I’m the horse you always bet on
‘Cause I’ll wallow for a while
But stayin’ down is not my style

You might think that I still need you
And might think that I’ll be back too
But that means you never knew me
And I’m done lettin’ you use me

What am I supposed to do when I can’t keep my mind off you?
How the heck will I move on when all the hope you gave me’s gone?

Well I know what I’m supposed to do when I can’t keep my mind off you
I know how I can move along I’ll just keep singing me this song
I know what I’m supposed to do to keep my wallowin’ mind off you
I know how I can move along I’ll just keep singing me this song

‘Cause all I need’s me and my songs

Back to the End by Melodie Yvonne

I still see your face in my mind
And it’s breaking my heart all the time
Your aura’s still burned in my soul
And it’s breaking my heart more than you know

I wanna go back to that place
Where all I can see is your beautiful face
Please take me back home once again
Where my love is blind and I’m there ‘til the end

I wish I could just rewind time
And go right on back to that innocence of mind
I wanna hide back in your arms
I wanna be swayed by your beautiful charms

I wanna hide right back with you
In our beautiful world that was woven by you
Why can’t I go back there again?
Why’d I have to go and see how this ends?

I wanna go back to that place
Where all I can see is your beautiful face
Please take me back home once again
Where my love is blind and I’m there ‘til the end

Why can’t we be blind ‘til the end?

  • Nothing Left

    Nothing Left by Melodie Yvonne

The petty little things you do
Only get a rise out of you
And I’m about to walk away
‘Cause I just don’t care what you say

I’m done and I won’t let you hurt me
I don’t care if you desert me
I still don’t need no one else
To feel the way that I have felt

I don’t need no more of you
So now I’m here to say we’re through
I just don’t need another heartache
Tired of all your manmade earthquakes

Don’t need no more of your lying
It’s done time that I got tired
I don’t need no more of you
And all those petty things you do

And I’m about to walk away
‘Cause I just don’t care what you say
    I’m about to walk away
The way you left my heart that day

    I’m about to walk away
    There nothing left to say.

  • No, Really, You Can Keep Him

No, Really, You Can Keep Him by Melodie Yvonne

I am not trying to take your husband
I am not trying to take your man
I can’t stand all that drama
And I don’t do things just ‘cause I can

I’m single not ready to mingle
I’m nice ‘cause it’s part of my job
I don’t deserve all this frustration
    Because of some dim-witted slob

If you don’t trust what you got going
Don’t make me some part your plan
Go shoot those daggers at somebody else
I am not trying to steal your man

I know that my way is confusing
And I get why you don’t understand
But trust me I’d rather be a big ole enigma
Than ever get stuck with your man.

PS… please stop tryin’ to set me up with your friend
I am NOT tryin’ to steal your man.

I’m Only Human by Melodie Yvonne

I know sometimes I make you mad
And maybe days I make you sad
But know that I am super sorry
I don’t mean to make you worry

I love you with all my heart
And even when we are apart
I think of days when we’re together
And it clears my cloudy weather

So just please forgive my stupid
    Understand I’m only human
But I’ll keep tryin’ to be more like you
‘Til one day I’m beautiful too

    Super Grace by Melodie Yvonne

    The power of discernment
    Is something you can see
    It’s inside everybody
    And even inside me

I see you when you’re lying
I see you when you’re good
And you can see the truth as well
    If you’d believe you could

    We all have super powers
    If only you could see
    It’s inside everybody
    And even inside me

    And it’s not sacrilegious
    To see the light within
And know that God has given us
    Our truths from deep within

So please just open up your heart
And know that you can fly
Accept the gifts that God gave you
    And open up your eyes

  • Spinnin’

    Spinnin’ by Melodie Yvonne

I got the fire of God in my belly
But the Devil’s mush in my brain
And all of this whispered anxiety
Is makin’ my heart feel insane

I know that there’s only one answer
To follow that spirit lead road
But my bravery’s startin’ to waiver
With all of those fears takin’ hold

Lord, stop my mind spinnin’, Lord, stop my mind spinnin’
I need some salvation and a few new beginnings
And if you don’t save me I’ll be lost again, oh Lord
Help me stop spinnin’ and stand where I am

I know that life’s ultimate question
Is rooted in a firm 42
I still just don’t know how to ask it
Or if I ask too much of you

Just know where you lead I will follow
I’m always along for your ride
Just please stop me runnin’ in circles
And breathe into me your new life

Lord, stop my mind spinnin’, Lord, stop my mind spinnin’
I need some salvation and a few new beginnings
And if you don’t save me I’ll be lost again, oh Lord
Help me stop spinnin’ and stand where I am

Oh Lord, Help me stop spinnin’ and stand where I am

  • I Just Get Addicted to Things

Originally published online July 17, 2018 & in the collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Huit — available here

I Just Get Addicted to Things by Melodie Yvonne

Had so much struggle and strife in my life
It’s hard to keep my head above water
And even in moments I think I can breathe
There’s another thing dragging me under

I take one more hit, one more secondhand breath
‘Til that haze fills my head and I’m drifting
My lips start to part ‘round the barrel of that gun
And now finally again I am living

    I can’t help myself I’m a puppet with strings
I’m just tryin’ to be an angel and earnin’ my wings
    But I can’t help myself I’m a child on a swing
And I just get addicted to things

Your eyes fill my windows and look in my soul
    I can’t breathe but somehow I don’t need to
I forget about the drugs, I don’t want to get high
‘Cause I’m high every moment I’m near you

But now when you’re gone the time drags too long
And I’m craving a glimpse of your face
I know you’ll make right by the end of the night
When I feel my hearts quickening pace

    I can’t help myself I’m a puppet with strings
I’m just tryin’ to be an angel and earnin’ my wings
    But I can’t help myself I’m a child on a swing
And I just get addicted to things

Well now I’m alone and you’re gone and I’m broke
My cracked achin’ heart is just part of your joke
I take out that needle and pack 80 grams
Then I’m sailing away ’til I’m all high again

    I can’t help myself I’m a puppet with strings
I’m just tryin’ to be an angel and earnin’ my wings
    But I can’t help myself I’m a child on a swing
And I just get addicted to things

  • Maybe

Originally published online July 15, 2018 & in the collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Huit — available here

    Maybe by Melodie Yvonne

Should I have said you won’t see me again?
Should I have told you that this is the end?
Should I have wrapped my arms tighter ’round you?
Maybe I should’ve but what could I do?

It took me a lifetime to build up the courage
Took me so long to choke down all my nerves
Took every ounce of every spine that I had left
To walk through those doors knowing you couldn’t care less

Maybe I wasn’t as brave as I could be
Maybe if I’d followed you’d have wanted to be with me
But even when you lead I still end up alone
You let snakes fill your house and left me in the cold

Now I can’t compete with that slithery nature
And I won’t bow down to your twin’s siphoned stature
So all that is left is a check you can’t cash
From a piece of my heart that you ground into ash

Should I have said you won’t see me again?
Should I have told you that this is the end?
Should I have wrapped my arms tighter ’round you?
Maybe I should’ve but what could I do?

  • On Fire

Originally published online July 10, 2018 & in the collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Huit — available here

    On Fire by Melodie Yvonne

I’m tryin’ to learn the difference ‘tween distraction
And the path you’ve led me on
    But sometimes I get lost
    And at what cost?

I’m tryin’ to learn the difference ‘tween my hurry
    And selfless worry
    But it’s so hard
    And I’ve got scars

    Maybe they have them too?

I’m tryin’ to learn the difference ‘tween the truth
    Without an ounce of proof
    But I’m tired
    And I’m on fire

I’m tryin to learn the difference ‘tween where I should be
    And I should leave
    But I’m too far
    And it’s so hard

Do they know I’m hurting too?

I’m tryin to learn the difference ‘tween my love
And all my love for you
    But you lied
    My hands are tied

I’m tryin to learn the difference ‘tween where I should be
    And I should leave
    But I’m tired
    And I’m on fire

Are we all on fire too?
