Words from a gonzoesque life in an oh so gonzoless world

    Passin’ Time by Melodie Yvonne

Everything is quiet in this big old empty house
Just the ticking of the clock echoes my heart
There’s a cold draft creepin’ in that chills me right down to the bone
And I’m wondering how things ever got so far

I don’t know what I’ll do to get through these long chilly winter nights
Don’t know how I’m gonna make it here alone
Don’t know how I’m gonna get through these cold January days
Without the hope of us to keep me goin’

Everything’s so quiet in this big old empty house
There’s nothing here to drown my yappin’ brain
It’s just a mess of maybes, how comes, what if‘s, and a couple why’s
That are dancin’ ‘round and driving me insane

I don’t know how I’m gonna keep together this old crumpled mess
Not sure how I’m gonna get you off my mind
How I’m gonna make it now is anybody’s guess
And now this life just feels like passin’ time

I don’t know what I’ll do to get through these long chilly winter nights
Don’t know how I’m gonna make it here alone
Don’t know how I’m gonna get through these cold January days
Without the hope of us to keep me goin’

    Worlds Apart by Melodie Yvonne

I never said I was mad at you for all the things you didn’t do
I don’t know how you broke my heart when we was always worlds apart
I don’t know how there’s all this pain from never seeing you again
I don’t know how you held my heart when we are worlds apart

I don’t know how you gave away my heart I put out for display
I truly thought there’d be no other now you’ve done left with another
And now it’s just another day tears crashing down like tidal waves
My love for you it pulls me under echoes through my soul like thunder

Now I don’t know what to do if I can’t be a part of you
I didn’t think you’d break my heart if I kept you a world apart
If you were just a fantasy I thought there’d be no harm to me
I don’t know how you’ve held my heart when we are worlds apart

    Doubt by Melodie Yvonne

    It really feels quite lonely
    Quite a bit like I’m a phony
And somehow it feels like I’m just chasing wishes

I’m just trying to live my best life
Life is just a real big test flight
But my mind is weaker than my heart’s ambition

I’m just tryin’ not to lose it
But it’s all so damn confusing
And I doubt I’ll make it far in this condition

But I’ve got the Holy Spirit
So I’m trying not to fear it
I just gotta find a way to stop and listen

He Carries Me by Melodie Yvonne

Loves not gone it’s just enfolded
And it comes when it supposed to
Though sometimes I just don’t feel it
God holds me right when I need it

Every time my heart is broken
He gives me that bit of hope and
Gives me fight to carry on
When all my strength to live is gone

He is there just when I need Him
Gives me something to believe in
When I just can’t carry on
He carries me just like a song

When I’m all alone and cryin’
And I done been filled with lyin’
God is there to glue my pieces
And make sure I keep believin’

He is there to heal my sorrows
And make me a new tomorrow
And then when I’m feeling worthless
He’s there with my smile and purpose

He is there just when I need Him
Gives me something to believe in
When I just can’t carry on
He carries me just like a song

Yeah when I just can’t carry on
    He carries me along

    Silent Echoes by Melodie Yvonne

All those words come back on me but I still gotta set them free
Or else they bounce ‘round in my head and echo all the things you said

An echo of how our life was tough and how I didn’t do enough
An echo of how I’ll never be all the things you want of me

Those silent echoes lose control and break up everything we know
Those silent echoes break our hearts and silently tear us apart

Those echoes bouncing ‘round my mind can’t take us back or rewind time
And now I’m gettin oh so tired of puttin’ out your constant fires

We can’t go back and start again so maybe we have reached our end
Unless one day you can forgive the echoes of how we used to live

Those silent echoes lose control and break up everything we know
Those silent echoes break our hearts and silently tear us apart

Those silent echoes break our hearts and now we’re torn apart

  • My Lyin’ Heart

Originally published online Dec 11, 2018 & in the collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Huit — available here

My Lyin’ Heart by Melodie Yvonne

Was it just my lyin’ heart lyin’ ‘bout you
It’s everything up in my brain that says that we’re through
Still all that noise ain’t louder than this heart pumpin’ fuel
But is it just my lyin’ heart lyin’ ‘bout you?

I needed you way more than you could ever know
I fell for you much harder than I’d ever show
But how could I have known that you’d just up and go
I don’t know how I’ll ever make it on my own

Was it just my lyin’ heart lyin’ ‘bout you?
I never thought you’d do to me what you could do
I didn’t wanna know the things I never knew
I hid behind my lyin’ heart lyin’ ‘bout you

I still dream that you’ll come back and we’ll be one day
I close my eyes and sometimes still can see your face
But with each day I open them it fades and fades
So somedays I just keep ‘em closed to make you stay

Is it just my lyin’ heart lyin’ ‘bout you?
It’s everything up in my brain that says we’re through
Still all that noise ain’t louder than this heart pumpin’ fuel
But maybe it’s my lyin’ heart lyin’ ‘bout you

  • Rich In My Heart

Rich In My Heart by Melodie Yvonne

No one says I wanna be poor
Everyone says I want a bit more
But oh to be rich just in my heart
Would be such a beautiful, brilliant start

Nobody says I wanna be poor
And soon we forget what money’s for
It takes us as captive and draws us near
We become so dependent that we start to fear

We forget that it’s paper & it’s not our own
We forget it won’t substitute heart and soul
We get lost in pursuit ‘til we don’t know we’re crazy
And plated in gold we’re crying out, “Save me!”

No one says I wanna be poor
Everyone says I want a bit more
We’re blinded by greed tryin’ to settle the score
And now we’re here callin’ that money Lord

No one says I wanna be poor
Everyone says I want a bit more
But oh if we’re not rich in our hearts
Our every desire will tear us apart

No one says I wanna be poor
Everyone says I want a bit more
But oh to be rich just in my heart
Would be such a beautiful, brilliant start

Leave Me the Love by Melodie Yvonne

All rash anger is heart murder and it scars my soul
Just tryin’ hard not to be salty’s harder than you know
And every time that I lash out I just regret again
Oh how on earth can you love me when I’m so full of sin

Oh how on earth can you love me when I’m so full of sin
Oh why on earth do I lay down and let this evil win
Please Lord help me and give me strength from heaven up above
Oh Lord take out the bad in me and just leave me the love

Oh please Lord will you heal my soul and tell me what to do
Oh Lord I’m here to follow you with everything I do
But every time I let my heart start wanderin’ again
Lord how on earth can you love me when I’m so full of sin

Oh how on earth can you love me when I’m so full of sin
Oh why on earth do I lay down and let this evil win
Please Lord help me and give me strength from heaven up above
Oh Lord take out the bad in me and just leave me the love

  • Tryin’ to Carry On

Originally published online Dec 1, 2018 & in the collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Huit — available here

Tryin’ to Carry On by Melodie Yvonne

When it gets dark and hard to breathe you’re standing right in front of me
And I feel just a bit of calm ‘til I remember you moved on

Then it gets dark and hard to breathe because you’re all I want to see
Now everything I love is gone, and I’m just tryin’ to carry on

I’m reachin’ out, but you’re not there
I guess you never really cared
So why’s it so hard not to love you
Why’s there no one else above you?

    I don’t know, but I’ll keep wishin’
    That I’ll finally forget and
Find my heart somethin’ to do
Besides to sit and wait for you

When it gets dark and hard to breathe you’re standing right in front of me
And I feel just a bit of calm ‘til I remember you moved on

Then it gets dark and hard to breathe because you’re all I want to see
Now everything I love is gone, and I’m just tryin’ to carry on

Now everything you gave me’s gone
And everything feels oh so wrong
But somehow I just don’t regret you
And I just might not forget you

Still my broken heart can’t smile
And patchin’ up sure takes a while
So what’s there left for me to do
    Except accept we’re finally through

When it gets dark and hard to breathe you’re standing right in front of me
And I feel just a bit of calm ‘til I remember you moved on

Then it gets dark and hard to breathe because you’re everything I need
Now everything I love is gone, and I’m just tryin’ to carry on

  • Arsonist on Fire

Originally published online Nov 6, 2018 & in the collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Huit — available here

Arsonist on Fire by Melodie Yvonne

    I wanna save your life
But I just can’t spend all of mine
Putting out fires for an arsonist
    Just having a good time

    I wanted to protect you
And make things go your way
But you sabotage them all yourself
And now I just can’t stay

    I wanted you to love
    But you just love yourself
And you take and take until you’re full
    From everybody else

    I wanted you to be
    The greatness that I see
But I took those rose tint lenses off
    And you’re the enemy

    I wanna save your life
But I just can’t spend all of mine
Putting out fires for an arsonist
    Just having a good time
