Words from a gonzoesque life in an oh so gonzoless world

  • It’s All Good, I’m Fine

This piece is a part of the print collection Methlehem — available here

It’s All Good, I’m Fine by Melodie Yvonne

I feel so fucking foolish and you’re so far outta line
You cut me off just like a whore once you had a good time
I promise I was never tryin’ to be your Valentine
But it’s all good, I’m used to it, just move along, I’m fine

I don’t know why I cleaned up every single mess you made
I don’t know why I let you take so much more than you gave
I don’t know why I always feel that I’m just in the way
And I really don’t know why I still just wish that you would stay

I feel so fucking foolish you just led me on again
You always seem so caring when you’re tryin’ to get it in
I guess somehow I knew, though, how the fuck this all would end
But it’s all good, I’m used to it, yeah that’s fine, we’re friends

Maybe I will learn this time and finally let you go
Maybe I will try to get through this without Patron
Maybe this and maybe that and maybe I don’t know
But it’s all good, I’m used to it, maybe I’ll let you go

    Mercy by Melodie Yvonne

Red tears fell down from your face while I prayed for a savior
Brushed the hair back from your brow and breathed it’s your one favor
Don’t know how I found you but I’m hopin’ you’re not lost
‘Cause rippin’ my heart open always comes with such a cost

Tore my soul wide open while the highway lines flashed by
Held myself together so you wouldn’t see me cry
Don’t know what to do now ‘sides just wait for you to leave me
It’s ok, though, I know how it goes but it still don’t go easy

Crimson soaked and sticky my hands grip tight on the wheel
Tryin’ to not let go and just tryin’ not to feel
‘Cause your goin’ too fast, but you keep tellin’ me to stop
And I just wanna get back home before we’re spotted by the cops

Gently wipin’ rust-stained skin while you whisper you love me
Don’t think you know who I am you wrap yourself around me
Driftin’ in and outta dreams I know that you don’t mean it
But we’re sewn together now and fallin’ more than 6ft in it

Don’t know what to do now and I don’t know what to say
Every time I close my eyes I still just see your face
Crimson soaked and sticky I’m still grippin’ on that wheel
Still just tryin’ not to let go and just tryin’ not to feel

Hopin that you’ll come back but hopin you’ll set me free
‘Cause ‘less you’re gonna fix me you can’t make a mess of me
And I know I should run away cause you’re just gonna hurt me
but now we’re all sewn together ‘neath the glowing lights of Mercy

Originally published online Oct 12, 2025 & will be in the upcoming collection Photographic Memories: Nein available here soon

Won’t You Be Neighborly by Melodie Yvonne

People often say to me, why do you let them do that?
How can you just stand there when that YouTube troll calls you fat?
How come you don’t speak up when another artist cancels?
When they paid that white man more than you, how could you keep on dancin’?

Why are you so nice when everyone just takes advantage?
Now you sit in poverty, while all their fruits are planted.
How can you just sit there while these people walk up on you
But, maybe they all have a point, and I should walk up too

Well, when I’m feelin good and I am havin’ my best day
I can tell you part of why is ‘cause I’ve learned all about Grace
I’ve seen me when I’m at my best and seen myself at less than
And if even just one person can forgive me you bet I can

I know that sometimes I am kind and sometimes feel compassion
But I also know that sometimes I can be a giant jackass
I know that sometimes I get hurt and those people are toxic
But I also know that sometimes when I hurt, it’s me that caused it

So if I can, those moments someone gets under my skin
    I’ll think about a time I could’ve been a better friend
I think about a time when I’m embarrassed ‘cause I lost it
And know that we all have this inside us if I am honest

So then I offer Grace and try to hand out some forgiveness
‘Cause everybody’s got some hurt and we’re together in this
So when I’m feelin’ good I try to hand out grace and love them
‘Cause when I’m feelin’ bad I just say people suck and fuck them

  • You Don’t

Originally published online Aug 25, 2025 & in the upcoming print collection Photographic Memories: Nein — available here soon

    You Don’t by Melodie Yvonne

You keep sayin’ it means somethin’, but I know that it don’t
‘Cause you just still don’t think of me unless it’s that you won’t
And I know that I’m stupid clingin’ on to any hope
‘Cause a man’ll do it if he wants and I know that you don’t

I ain’t asked for nothin’ but you keep sayin’ what you won’t give
It’s just I saw you dyin’ and I was tryin’ to help you live
But it won’t make you give a damn no matter what I did
It’s like road rage in a traffic jam, I’m never gonna win

And now there’s all these words I don’t know how to say out loud
And I don’t think you’d hear ‘em ‘cause you’re spinnin’ round and round
I wanna pull you up, but you dig in and pull me down
‘Cause you’re kinda sayin’ everything by not makin’ a sound

You keep sayin’ it means the world but I know that it don’t
‘Cause you just still don’t think of me unless it’s that you won’t
And I know I’m a fool for clingin’ on to any hope
‘Cause a man’ll do it if he wants and I know that you don’t

So what else can I do but sit here in it all again
I didn’t mean to somersault, love, I just meant to bend
I say you made a mess of me, but you just made a friend
But I woulda done it anyway if I’d known how it would end

So, I just sit here missin’ you while you drift off in space
I just sit here all alone and prayin’ for some grace
‘Cause I sure never wanted to sit here and miss your face
But those breadcrumbs of your love made me want more than just a taste

You keep sayin’ it means somethin’, but I know that I don’t
‘Cause you just still don’t think of me unless it’s that you won’t
And I know I’m a fool for clingin’ on to foolish hope
‘Cause a man’ll do it if he wants and I know that you don’t

Yeah a man’ll do it if he wants and I know that you don’t

    Enough Rope by Melodie Yvonne

Sobriety’s a fucking joke but somehow no one’s laughing
An endless lonely pit of shit that always keeps me gasping
and everybody says it’s great, move on and just keep trying
But where the fuck are they when all I think about is dying

You say that I’m too much, but if I don’t speak up I’m lying
I pour my fucking soul out, somehow you’re the one here crying
and every breath I take is just another I lose hope
pretty sure that all my life I ain’t been nothin’ but a joke

The closer to my home the less respect you seem to give
You’ve taken so much from me now I’m leaking like a sieve
And everywhere I bleed’s another stain that won’t come out
Used to know what I was doing now I’m frozen with your doubt

Can’t run no more I’m stuck here and I’m diggin’ my own grave
Y’all said that you supported me, but took way more than gave
I’m drowning underneath it all and struggling to breathe
I can’t go on much more like this you’ve made a mess of me

I need a little pick me up ‘fore I drift off in space
I need a ball and chain AND anchor holding me in place
I’ve been alone too long and now you gotta send me help
‘Cause so far all you’ve gave me’s enough rope to hang myself

  • Heartache Season

    Heartache Season by Melodie Yvonne

I broke my fucking heart wide open, let it bleed for you
You held it gently for a moment then let it bleed through
I don’t know what I’m supposed to do now ‘cause my dial’s on “E”
And I know I shoulda known better than lovin’ you for free

I guess no matter what I do I’m always pickin’ wrong
I danced that same old dance again right to that same old song
And every time my dime’s on heads my head floats off in space
And I’m left here all alone again just picturin’ your face

I always jump the gun and then that gun is jumpin’ me
I don’t know how to be myself plus be the one you need
I guess they got that sayin’, though, stuff happens for a reason
But the hottest Midwest Summer heat don’t burn like Heartache Season

I cried my eyes out when you said we’d be best just as friends
That same old pattern toppling end over end again
That same old question in my head, “How do you make love stay?”
But I never learned the answer ‘cause I was a runaway

I guess no matter what I do I’m always pickin’ wrong
I danced that same old dance again right to that same old song
And every time my dime’s on heads my head floats off in space
And I’m left here all alone again just prayin’ for some grace

Just prayin’ for a little light to get me through the night
Just prayin’ you will change your mind and come make it alright
I guess they got that sayin, though, stuff happens for a reason
But the hottest Midwest Summer heat don’t burn like Heartache Season

  • Your Last Mistake

Originally published online Aug 22, 2025 & will be in the upcoming collection Photographic Memories: Nein available here soon

Your Last Mistake by Melodie Yvonne

I wish that I could take it back so maybe you would stay
I don’t know why I’m always givin’ all my love away
But every time I make a choice I’m always pickin’ wrong
And now my life’s a bigger dumpster fire than an old country song

I wish that I could think back on that night without regret
Would it have made a difference if I’d stayed instead of left
I never know just what to do there’s just too many rules
And now I’m left here all alone again and feelin’ like a fool

Too many words are just too much and none are not enough
Why can’t we just be what we are, pretendin’s too damn tough
I’m not askin’ to be together, but why can’t we just be?
I know you said that it was you but we both know it’s just me

I wish that I could take it back and buy just one more day
Just one more day of hope before you take it all away
Just one more day of bein’ somethin’ special in your eyes
Before I was your last mistake and you said your goodbyes

Real Life With Woodpecker by Melodie Yvonne

I look at your face and my heart starts to race
I want you so bad I can feel the embrace
The heat of your body pressed into my skin
And I’m achin’ for wantin’ to see you again

I think about all of the things I would do
And all of the depths I would crawl to please you
Worship on my knees, speaking tongues on your skin
I’ll be your Madonna and your favorite sin

I’ll be everything that you want and you need
Going out of my way to bring you ecstasy
I’ll run my lips slowly down every inch of you
‘Til every inch of me is soaked right on through

I’ll drown in your essence and then beg for more
Life’s not worth living unless I’m your whore
All I can dream ‘bout’s to have you inside me
You pick the lips and the hole and just slide in

All I can think ‘bout is letting you touch me
All I can think about is you and me writhing
I’d do whatever it takes just to please you
If you’d give me the use of even just one finger

I’ll make you so hard like no porn that you’ve seen
Your personal fucking and sucking machine
I’ll be there to take care of your every need
You just say the word and I’m down on my knees

I think about all of the things I would do
And all of the depths I would crawl to please you
Worship on my knees, speaking tongues on your skin
Suck, Fuck, and repeat again and again
