Words from a gonzoesque life in an oh so gonzoless world

  • Dirty Little Spills

I stopped right here by your front door
    And dared to peek inside
The dimness of your inner lights
    Held secrets you can’t hide

You seemed to be so debonair
    So stern and in control
But what I didn’t seem to notice
Was the waning of your flow

I was sent here to protect you
And save your life I will
But I just can’t keep on cleanin’ up
    Your dirty little spills

I stopped right here by your front door
    And dared to peek inside
    They’re linin’ up like leeches
Pumpin’ your veins for a ride

Still you just keep on flexin’ them
    And tighten up that tie
But I just can’t drown an arsonist
Just a’ having a good time

I was sent here to protect you
And save your life I will
But I just can’t keep on cleanin’ up
    Your dirty little spills

I stopped right here by your front door
    And dared to peek inside
The dimness of your inner lights
    Held secrets you can’t hide

I stopped right here by your front door
    And dared to peek inside
But now it’s time for me to turn away
From all these fires you light

I was sent here to protect you
And save your life I will
But I just can’t keep on cleanin’ up
    Your dirty little spills

Oh no I just can’t keep on cleanin’ up
    Your dirty little spills

Runnin’ away is all that I’m good at
So it’s a surprise why my butt cheeks are so fat
‘Cause I spend my time just a’ tryin’ for freedom
I guess once I get it I spend it all eatin’

Runnin’ away is all that I’m good at
I’m hidin’ from you ‘til my belly is so fat
I’m full from the you shots I’m drinking away
And now I’m so drunk its makin’ me stay

Runnin’ away is all that I’m good at
Nothin’s forever but you got what I lack
Can’t figure out why right here I’m still sittin’
But surely to god it’s about time for quittin’

Runnin’ away is all that I’m good at
I just can’t stay now so I’m takin my heart back
Easing on out that old door that I slid in
And hopin’ you stay on asleep ‘til the mornin’

Runnin’ away is all that I’m good at
And I just don’t need no one else holdin’ me back
I guess I just really should never have let you
And now how am I ever just gonna forget you

Runnin’ away is all that I’m good at

  • I’m Leaving

Originally published online Aug 11, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

You look at me like you think something
Your eyes are what give you away
You treat me just like I’m a nothing
And I just plain don’t like these games

Your eyes I’m just starting to realize
Are bein’ used mostly for weighing
So my mind’s runnin’ startin’ to theorize
That you just plain don’t care what I’m saying

He looks at me like I’m a something
And treats me more like I am too
So please don’t believe that I’m bluffing
When I say those two words to you

    I’m leaving, I’m leaving
    You’ve pushed me too far
    I’m leaving, I’m leaving
    You gave me these scars
    I’m leaving, I’m leaving
    Is what I must say
    I’m leaving, I’m leaving
    I’m saying today

If actions speak louder than words
Then your lazy motions are yelling
And why in the hell does it hurt?
The bruises your love leaves are telling

They tell me I should walk away
They tell me to never look back
So no longer here can I stay
You’ve done turned my blue heart to black

I’m takin my somethin’ and leavin’
Now you are the nothing I see
So don’t give me that bullshit grievin’
You never gave one shit ‘bout me

    I’m leaving, I’m leaving
    You’ve pushed me too far
    I’m leaving, I’m leaving
    You gave me these scars
    I’m leaving, I’m leaving
    Is what I must say
    I’m leaving, I’m leaving
    I’m saying today

    I’m leaving, I’m leaving
    You’ve pushed me too far
    I’m leaving, I’m leaving
    You gave me these scars
    I’m leaving, I’m leaving
    Is what I must say
    I’m leaving, I’m leaving
    I’m goin’ today

Stop being that guy that I want you to be
Just please remind me why I choose to be free
Don’t cross the streams and don’t add to my cluster
‘Cause hidin’ these feelings is all I can muster

Need you to need me just like I need you
We’ve not really started but soon we’ll be through
I just can’t stand here and watch you forget me
I’m thinkin’ I’m runnin ‘fore you start to miss me

What are you doin’ you’re gonna confuse me
Can’t you just be like them all and abuse me
Can’t you just let me alone with my crazy
Just let me alone and stop tryin’ to save me

Need you to need me just like I need you
We’ve not really started but soon we’ll be through
I just can’t stand here and watch you forget me
I’m thinkin’ I’m runnin ‘fore you start to miss me

Whatever you are I am all that and more
A forward and backward emotional whore
And I just don’t think that I’ll ever be needed
So I’m kinda thinkin’ I better be leavin’

Need you to need me just like I need you
We’ve not really started but soon we’ll be through
I just can’t stand here and watch you forget me
I’m thinkin’ I’m runnin ‘fore you start to miss me

I’m thinkin’ I’m runnin ‘fore you start to miss me
I’ve got a head start do ya miss me?

You’re all that I am and all that I’m not
I’m nobody’s girl but your web’s got me caught
Not sure what I’m doing feelin’ this way
But the way that I’m feelin’ keeps makin’ me stay

Sittin’ here frozen with fear on your couch
Torn between touchin’ and runnin’ right out
But how can I keep this cold petrified stature
When warm cozy cuddlin’ is what you are after

Sittin’ here frozen with fear ‘round my heart
Keepin’ it froze so it don’t fall apart
But how will I keep this cold petrified pump
When your warm blooded soul tries to give me a jump

You’re all that I am and all that I got
I’m falling too deep and no bottom to stop
And I already know you won’t be there to catch me
I guess I’m just hopin’ your soul won’t forget me

Sittin’ here frozen with fear on your couch
Torn between touchin’ and runnin’ right out
But how can I keep this cold petrified stature
When warm cozy cuddlin’ is what you are after

Sittin’ here frozen with fear ‘round my heart
Keepin’ it froze so it don’t fall apart
But how will I keep this cold petrified pump
When your warm blooded soul tries to give me a jump

You’re all that I was but now I’m just not
I’m runnin’ away and I’ll never be caught
‘Cause it’s just all scary the way that you get me
And soon I just know that you’re gonna forget me

Sittin’ here frozen with fear round my heart
Keepin’ it froze so it don’t fall apart
But how will I keep this cold petrified pump
When your warm blooded soul just keeps makin’ me jump

How will I keep myself frozen?

  • Pixelated Nation

Originally published online July 24, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

Over processed miracles and unrequited dreams
Eat away our innocence so much more than they seem
Over filtered conversations sensitize our brains
‘Til no one says a thing they mean and no one says a thing

We hide our truth behind these pixelated movie screens
We make up stories and forget that no one’s what they seem
We hide our hearts and bury feelings deep down in our souls
‘Cause if anyone’s offended now we just don’t wanna know

Over processed miracles and unrequited dreams
Eat away our innocence so much more than they seem
Over filtered conversations sensitize our brains
‘Til no one says a thing they mean and no one says a thing

We’re keeping company with cold computer-aided voices
We cower down and tuck our tails from actual human noises
We hide in darkened rooms subject to self-interrogation
From a faceless database filled with a pixelated nation

Over processed miracles and unrequited dreams
Eat away our innocence so much more than they seem
Over filtered conversations sensitize our brains
‘Til no one says a thing they mean and no one says a thing

We hasten our demise and smile like we’ve done nothing wrong
We sell our souls to corporations following the throngs
Then when our world implodes we’re first to point and blame the missing
We’re just building our own ark to hell and 2 x 4 we’re drifting

Over processed miracles and unrequited dreams
Eat away our innocence so much more than they seem
Over filtered conversations sensitize our brains
‘Til no one says a thing they mean and no one says a thing

Our world of no one says a thing they mean and no one says a thing
A world of no one says a thing they mean and no one says a thing
We’re just a world on fire and drowning in an opioid sedation
And we’re building our own walls here in our pixelated nation

  • Falling

Originally published online Aug 9, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

    I don’t know if I’ve met you
But I do know that I love you
    I’m sittin’ up in heaven
And I’m watchin’ up above you

    I don’t know if I’ve met you
But I know I got the feeling
That soon we’re gonna make something
That has this whole world reeling

    I don’t know if I’ve met you
But I do know that I’m falling
Lookin’ all around me for somethin’
    To help this stalling

I don’t know what to say to you
    Besides that I’m not ready
I’m still just frightened and I know
My hearts just still not steady

    I don’t know if I’ve met you
    But I’ve fallen

  • Spark

Originally published online July 22, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

I wanna feel everything all of the time
I’m taking the world and I’m making it mine
I wanna feel something on fire just like you
So I can remember I’ve got that spark too

I’d rather feel pain than plain cold-hearted apathy
Rather be crying then feeling numb comfortably
Rather be manic than barely excited
And I’m really tired of trying to hide it

Feeling so lonely’s more than I felt with him
But feeling your vibes got me all scared inside again
How am I gonna hide myself from you
When all that you are is all I want too

I wanna feel everything all of the time
I’m taking the world and I’m making it mine
I wanna feel something on fire just like you
So I can remember I’ve got that spark too

I guess it don’t matter to me ‘bout the ending
Guess it don’t matter to me if you’re smitten
‘Cause everything always works out how it’s written
And I just can’t let myself rot here just sittin’

I’d rather feel everything all of the time
Then sit here a’hidin away behind these rhymes
I’d rather feel longing from wanting to touch you
Then feel what it’d be if I let go and lost you

I wanna feel everything all of the time
I’m taking the world and I’m making it mine
I wanna feel something on fire just like you
So I can remember I’ve got that spark too

I wanna be something on fire just like you
So please just stay with me ‘til I’m on fire too

  • Pariah

Originally published online July 20, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

    I’ve got a sickness like I’m a pariah
    I can’t control myself
    Wanna get higher

I can’t escape from this life how I’ve made it
But I just can’t give up
    And I’ll never trade it

Feelin’ so lonely’s the cost of my dreams
Tryin’ to win love I’ve done terrible things
But I’ll never give up until I’m a-flyin’
‘Cause if I’m not livin’ I’d rather be dyin’

    I’ve got a sickness like I’m a possession
    Tryin’ not to be someone’s
    Crazy obsession

But now it’s too late I’ve done learned my lessons
    I wanna be me
    I don’t need your suggestions

Feelin’ so lonely’s the cost of my dreams
Tryin’ to win love I’ve done terrible things
But I’ll never give up until I’m a-flyin’
‘Cause if I’m not livin’ I’d rather be dyin’

‘Cause if I’m not livin’ I’d rather be dyin’

  • You Don’t

This is a new one from my upcoming collection Photographic Memories: Nein — Stay tuned for release dates!!! Shop my current collections on Amazon now HERE

You keep sayin’ it means somethin’, but I know that it don’t
‘Cause you just still don’t think of me unless it’s that you won’t
And I know that I’m stupid clingin’ on to any hope
‘Cause a man’ll do it if he wants and I know that you don’t

I ain’t asked for nothin’ but you keep sayin’ what you won’t give
It’s just I saw you dyin’ and I was tryin’ to help you live
But it won’t make you give a damn no matter what I did
It’s like road rage in a traffic jam, I’m never gonna win

And now there’s all these words I don’t know how to say out loud
And I don’t think you’d hear ‘em ‘cause you’re spinnin’ round and round
I wanna pull you up, but you dig in and pull me down
‘Cause you’re kinda sayin’ everything by not makin’ a sound

You keep sayin’ it means the world but I know that it don’t
‘Cause you just still don’t think of me unless it’s that you won’t
And I know I’m a fool for clingin’ on to any hope
‘Cause a man’ll do it if he wants and I know that you don’t

So what else can I do but sit here in it all again
I didn’t mean to somersault, love, I just meant to bend
I say you made a mess of me, but you just made a friend
But I woulda done it anyway if I’d known how it would end

So, I just sit here missin’ you while you drift off in space
I just sit here all alone and prayin’ for some grace
‘Cause I sure never wanted to sit here and miss your face
But those breadcrumbs of your love made me want more than just a taste

You keep sayin’ it means somethin’, but I know that I don’t
‘Cause you just still don’t think of me unless it’s that you won’t
And I know I’m a fool for clingin’ on to foolish hope
‘Cause a man’ll do it if he wants and I know that you don’t

Yeah a man’ll do it if he wants and I know that you don’t
