Words from a gonzoesque life in an oh so gonzoless world

Just Like You – Methlehem Edition

This piece can be found in the print collection Methlehem — available here

You gave me your story just like the crow and
behind my eyes it throbs and throws tantrums

I wanna still die a bit every day and
waking without you just makes me insane

You built me so high, so high that I flew and
I always wanted to be just like you

The you that I know, though, not you that your lies hid
The truth has a way to catch up and it’s frightening

Now what I see is you wanna be me and
tell you the truth I wanna be free and

my runnin’ away is runnin’ inside but
these walls that I built just won’t let me hide in

You built me so high, so high that I flew and
I always wanted to be just like you

The you that I know, though, not you that your lies hid
The truth has a way to catch up and it’s frightening

Innocence killed when that monster killed you and
we’re all undone by a tall tale that grew one

Fifteen years gone now our lives fall away and
I still wanna save you most every day

You built me so high, so high that I flew and
I always wanted to be just like you

The you that I know, though, not you that your lies hid
Your truth had a way with my heart and it’s frightened

Your truth had its way with my heart and it’s frightened
Your truth had its way with my soul and I’m frightened
Your truth had its way now I’m frightened
