Words from a gonzoesque life in an oh so gonzoless world

Dirty Little Spills

Originally published online Aug 23, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

I stopped right here by your front door
And dared to peek inside
The dimness of your inner lights
Held secrets you can’t hide

You seemed to be so debonair
So stern and in control
But what I didn’t seem to notice
Was the waning of your flow

I was sent here to protect you
And save your life I will
But I just can’t keep on cleanin’ up
Your dirty little spills

I stopped right here by your front door
And dared to peek inside
They’re linin’ up like leeches
Pumpin’ your veins for a ride

Still you just keep on flexin’ them
And tighten up that tie
But I just can’t drown an arsonist
Just a’ having a good time

I was sent here to protect you
And save your life I will
But I just can’t keep on cleanin’ up
Your dirty little spills

I stopped right here by your front door
And dared to peek inside
The dimness of your inner lights
Held secrets you can’t hide

I stopped right here by your front door
And dared to peek inside
But now it’s time for me to turn away
From all these fires you light

I was sent here to protect you
And save your life I will
But I just can’t keep on cleanin’ up
Your dirty little spills

Oh no I just can’t keep on cleanin’ up
Your dirty little spills
