Words from a gonzoesque life in an oh so gonzoless world

I’m Leaving

Originally published online Aug 11, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

You look at me like you think something
Your eyes are what give you away
You treat me just like I’m a nothing
And I just plain don’t like these games

Your eyes I’m just starting to realize
Are bein’ used mostly for weighing
So my mind’s runnin’ startin’ to theorize
That you just plain don’t care what I’m saying

He looks at me like I’m a something
And treats me more like I am too
So please don’t believe that I’m bluffing
When I say those two words to you

I’m leaving, I’m leaving
You’ve pushed me too far
I’m leaving, I’m leaving
You gave me these scars
I’m leaving, I’m leaving
Is what I must say
I’m leaving, I’m leaving
I’m saying today

If actions speak louder than words
Then your lazy motions are yelling
And why in the hell does it hurt?
The bruises your love leaves are telling

They tell me I should walk away
They tell me to never look back
So no longer here can I stay
You’ve done turned my blue heart to black

I’m takin my somethin’ and leavin’
Now you are the nothing I see
So don’t give me that bullshit grievin’
You never gave one shit ‘bout me

I’m leaving, I’m leaving
You’ve pushed me too far
I’m leaving, I’m leaving
You gave me these scars
I’m leaving, I’m leaving
Is what I must say
I’m leaving, I’m leaving
I’m saying today

I’m leaving, I’m leaving
You’ve pushed me too far
I’m leaving, I’m leaving
You gave me these scars
I’m leaving, I’m leaving
Is what I must say
I’m leaving, I’m leaving
I’m goin’ today
