Words from a gonzoesque life in an oh so gonzoless world

My Hero

Originally published online May 20, 2017 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

You are Superman, but I don’t need a lift
You are Captain America, but I’ve got the gift
You’re quick just like The Flash but you’re wasting all my time
And I just don’t need no more of yours, I’ve got too much of mine

You are Wonderboy, but I am Wonder Woman
And if we’re here together then who’ll be there to save them
You’re a super power but I’m just Switzerland
And it’s just too hard to pick a side, break walls, and let you in

You’re a firefighter, but I’m a firestarter
Each day that we’re together just gets hard, and then gets harder
You just sit all quiet as you listen and you learn
But I’m all sittin’ here just waiting for the world to burn

You are my Scott Summers, but I need my Wolverine
I need a little dirty, and you like to keep it clean
I’m waiting for my gambit, though, when all is said and done
And I wish you well, and hope at least you’ve had the mostest fun

Oh! You are Superman, but I don’t need a lift
You’re my Captain America, but I’ve got the gift
You’re quick just like The Flash, but you’re wasting all my time
And I just don’t need no more of yours, I’ve got too much of mine

Oh no, I just don’t need no more of yours, I’ve got too much of mine
