Words from a gonzoesque life in an oh so gonzoless world

Your Moonshines

Originally published online May 25, 2016 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: The Neverending Sequel — available here

How do I accept this blessing
without falling completely apart?
How do I build myself up,
and then turn and break my own heart?

How do I follow my starlight
when that moonshine’s so bright inside yours?
How do I unstick these hinges,
and shut you behind and lock all these doors?

I just want my eyes to stop leaking,
but your moon controls the tides on my shore,
and these salty tears are all floodin’
right down my face as I fall to the floor
