  • Frivolous Things

The piece is included in the collection Oxies and Roxies and Suboxies! Oh my!: A Tornado of Love, Lust, Addiction, and Loss available now on Amazon HERE

I’m so fucking tired, but I can’t fucking sleep
These memories of you play and play on repeat
I can’t seem to get you the fuck out my head
And I’d give my last breath just to see you again

The nightmare you left plays awake in my mind
An ocean of sadness swallows time like the tide
I’m gasping for air, but can’t leave you behind
Drowning over and over, but still can’t fucking die

Tell me you love me and it’s just a dream
Scream, “That’s my jam!” & let me hear you sing
Give back the time that I wasted in vain
feelin’ sorry for me & my frivolous things

How could you do this, but then how could I?
You were such magic I thought you could fly
No one deserved you and neither did I
But can’t we just go back ‘stead of saying goodbye?

Tell me you love me and it’s just a dream
Scream, “That’s my jam!” & let me hear you sing
Give back the time that I wasted in vain
feelin’ sorry for me & my frivolous things

  • The Sunshine Buyer

The piece is included in the collection Oxies and Roxies and Suboxies! Oh my!: A Tornado of Love, Lust, Addiction, and Loss available now on Amazon HERE

“Don’t be scared,” he says, and I’m not
I’m just scared when I’m talkin’ to you
“Don’t be scared,” he says, and I’m caught
Scared to walk away and stop lookin’ at you

‘Cause that’s it and that’s all that I got
Just this feeling I get when I’m lookin’ at you,
and I wonder how good it’s not
so I can forget these sweet things that you do

Now my heart’s out and starting to rot
The right place at the right time’s so few,
I’m just tryin’ to make my brain stop
    dissecting the labyrinth encompassing you

‘Cause that’s it and that’s all that I got
Just this feeling I get when I’m lookin’ at you,
and I wonder how good it’s not
so I can forget these sweet things that you do

Bought talent goes straight to the top
I see my attraction for you,
but I wanna believe that it’s not
‘cause I’m a real girl gettin’ swallowed by you

But that’s it and that’s all that I got
Just this crazy electric jolt comin’ from you,
and I’m wondering what is the cost?
How can I forget these sweet things that you do?

I guess part of me wants to stay lost
It’s safer just being collected by you
Stop thinking, let you call the shots,
and sleep walk through your woven dreams without you

    Still Stumbling by Melodie Yvonne
(“STILL TUMBLING” IS THE SEQUEL TO “STUMBLING UP THE MOUNTAIN“)

One time this boy… one of the most beautiful boys I’ve ever met… told me ”Stumbling Up The Mountain” was one of his favorite pieces yet.

I thought it was my weakest because it showed my weakness,
but it was a weakness I secretly wanted him to see.

Later he asked when I’d wrote it with a slight hint of something maybe foreboding?
    I don’t know and I wonder if I should’ve told him the unasked answers…
that yes everything can be summed up to 42,
and that yes he was the best thing I ever knew, and a resounding

“YES! I’m so in love with you!”

but, I had already tried to tell him once before this, and, well…
    He didn’t get the text.

I thought that meant he wasn’t supposed to know,
but… maybe… it just meant that love words were meant to be written and not cold?
And maybe… it just meant that technologies growing young while I’m growing old,
but no matter what I’m told now I know it was Tom Robbins that was the one that was right all along…

“There is only one serious question. And that is: Who knows how to make love stay?”

I just wish I had found the answer before it was too late.

  • It’s Oxies and Roxies and Suboxies! Oh my!: A Tornado of Love, Lust, Addiction, and Loss!

I’m proud to present my new memoir in verse, Oxies and Roxies and Suboxies! Oh My!: A Tornado of Love, Lust, Addiction, and Loss, for National Poetry Month! Oxies and Roxies and Suboxies! Oh My! is a gritty hybrid collection of Southern Gothic short stories, narrative poems, and vignettes inspired by my life in Southern Indiana.

Synopsis: A teenage girl runs away to escape a home filled with cruelty and betrayal, only to marry into a world of drugs and chaos even more violent. Her plunge into bedlam and fight to survive are a truthful look at navigating a rollercoaster of emotional morality through the drug-entrenched heart of the Conservative Midwest at the turn of the century.

From font to illustration to complete book design, I designed this project with all my heart. I hope you feel the soul I pored into these pages. Oxies and Roxies and Suboxies! Oh my!: A Tornado of Love, Lust, Addiction, and Loss is now available on Amazon and other major platforms… grab your copy and live every word with me.

    Just Driving by Melodie Yvonne

Not sure where the fuck to go, not sure what to do
You find the hard way freedom’s got a price
I don’t know if I’ll ever find a place to call my own
Just hopin’ for somewhere to call tonight

Everything I fucking own is ridin’ in the back
Ain’t got no time to stop and rest my head
It’s gettin’ really cold and dark way out in BFE
If you stop in the wrong spot you’ll end up dead

Not sure where the fuck I’ll sleep, not sure where I’ll live
Not sure if I wanna live this way
Right now I just got a think of what the fuck to do, though
So I can keep my ass alive today
