Words from a gonzoesque life in an oh so gonzoless world

Maybe

Maybe by Melodie Yvonne

Should I have said you won’t see me again?
Should I have told you that this is the end?
Should I have wrapped my arms tighter ’round you?
Maybe I should’ve but what could I do?

It took me a lifetime to build up the courage
Took me so long to choke down all my nerves
Took every ounce of every spine that I had left
To walk through those doors knowing you couldn’t care less

Maybe I wasn’t as brave as I could be
Maybe if I’d followed you’d have wanted to be with me
But even when you lead I still end up alone
You let snakes fill your house and left me in the cold

Now I can’t compete with that slithery nature
And I won’t bow down to your twin’s siphoned stature
So all that is left is a check you can’t cash
From a piece of my heart that you ground into ash

Should I have said you won’t see me again?
Should I have told you that this is the end?
Should I have wrapped my arms tighter ’round you?
Maybe I should’ve but what could I do?
