Words from a gonzoesque life in an oh so gonzoless world

Soul Beacon

Originally published online Oct 9, 2017 & in the collection Photographic Memories: Deux Mille Dix-Sept — available here

Finally you’re done hurting these people,
Your cruelty and misery knows no equal
But still you just can’t let me out of your sight
‘Cause you’ve stolen my heart but you can’t steal my light

Beaten and bruised yet my soul’s still a beacon
An endless supply of sun you’ll never weaken
And no matter how much you treat me this way
I’ll keep right on loving but I’ll never stay

Finally you’re done hurting these people,
Your cruelty and misery knows no equal
But still you just can’t let me out of your sight
‘Cause you’ve stolen my heart but you can’t steal my light

My love and my dreams aren’t much more than a wish list
My prime time is over I guess I just missed it
So beaten and broken I look like your prey
But my soul’s still on fire, you’ll not eat me today

Finally you’re done hurting these people,
Your cruelty and misery knows no equal
But still you just won’t let me out of your sight
‘Cause you’ve stolen my heart but you can’t steal my light

Finally I’ve stopped you from hurting these people
Your cruelty and misery knew no equal
And now you just can’t let me out of your sight
‘Cause I’ve stolen your heart and I’ve breathed you new life

Somehow now you just can’t let me out of your sight
‘Cause now I’m your beacon and guide you through night
Somehow now you just can’t let me out of your sight
‘Cause I’ve stolen your heart and now we share my light
