Words from a gonzoesque life in an oh so gonzoless world

Myself Being Me

Originally published online Dec 17, 2016 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: The Neverending Sequel — available here

Being myself is myself being me
Unfiltered absurdity’s what I set free
I got all these skills and I got what you need
But I’m not just the kind of girl you get to keep

I’m just half a heartbeat away, and half what you want me to say
I’m just a big ball of nothing, wrapped up too tight and all filled with stuffing
But right now that’s all that I am, just pieces of chunks of my I give a damn

One part of me’s tangled and that’s all I need
I’m wrapped up in you and you’re wrapped up in me
But the rise of the sun is my inkling to leave
And I’ll love you tomorrow once you set me free

And I’ll be half a heartbeat away, and half what you want me to say
I’ll still be your big ball of nothing, wrapped up too tight and all filled with stuffing
But right now that’s all that I am, just pieces of chunks of my I give a damn
And that’s all that I’ve got left to give, this battered old heart just leaks like a sieve

I’ll still be what you need me to be
I’ve got all these skills, I can be what you need
But I’m not the kind girl you can keep
‘Cause being myself is myself being free
