Words from a gonzoesque life in an oh so gonzoless world

A Beautiful Mess Like Me

Originally published online Dec 14, 2016 & in the print collection Photographic Memories: The Neverending Sequel — available here

You are a beautiful mess just like me
I see in your arms my safe place to be free
but we are two fools that can’t get it together
writhing in silence through furious weather

Damaged and broken with rot in our cores
How could we expect to be loved any more
when most of our feelings come off of cold labels
and real true romance only happens in fables

Barely just found my heart’s torn apart pieces
Scared of your mind and the lust it unleashes
Blindingly juxtaposed and we’re in pieces
Do I just wanna fuck or do I really need this?

A peek in your heart made my soul want to dance
so a look in your eyes is a glance I can’t chance
Locking our soul windows might bring us near
but this soul recognition’s now something I fear

The cold in the dark sent me runnin’ away
but it wasn’t the real reason I didn’t stay
Scared that you’ll love me but scared you’ll reject me
Fearing I’ll ruin you, afraid you’ll infect me

Barely just met you and my mind’s in pieces
Torn between running and riding your jesus
Blindingly jaded we picked up our pieces
We’re comfortably numb, let carnality feed us

You are a beautiful mess just like me
I see in your eyes my safe place to be free
but we’re still two fools that can’t get it together
and lost in our silence we’ll miss our forever

We’re fools
Star-crossed lovers fate haunts ‘til our end
